Gardasil
What is Gardasil?
Gardasil is a cervical cancer vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of human papillomavirus (HPV): 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. GARDASIL is for girls and young women ages 9 to 26. It was approved in June 2006 by the FDA. It is currently the only FDA approved vaccination for the HPV. Merck has aggressively marketed the drug so far as to have at least 20 state legislatures actively seeking to make this vaccine mandatory for all girls in 6th grade.
What are the side effects?
Merck has maintained from its release of Gardasil that it’s virtually side effect free. Pain at the injection site is the most common complaint. The FDA’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System has received over 3,400 complaints of adverse reactions. It’s possible that as many as 8 deaths have been attributable to Gardasil. Blood clots have been linked to the vaccine as well. Other side effects including paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, seizures, fainting and miscarriage were also reported.
